Learning Management Systems-Moodle based Flipped Learning Model to Increase Basic Translation Skills and 21st Century Skills

Abstract

This study discusses the Moodle-based Flipped Learning Model to improve Basic Translation Skills and 21st Century Skills that have never been studied in depth. The purpose of this study is to describe the achievement and improvement of Basic Translation Skills and 21st Century Skills for students who experience learning by the Moodle based Flipped Learning Model. This Flipped Learning Model which later can provide a very different student learning experience to support 21st century learning that integrates the Moodle digital-platform to meet student learning needs effectively and provide feedback as expected. This study is a quasi-experimental study using a pre-test - post-test control group design. The population in this study were all regular evening students at one of the private universities in Jakarta, while the sample was students taking Translation courses. This study uses several instruments, namely the General English Language Proficiency test, the Basic Translation Skills test, the 21st Century Skills scale, observation sheets, and interview guidelines. Data analysis in this study used statistical parametric and non-parametric analysis. The results of this study are: (1) The achievement and improvement of Basic Translation Skills and 21st Century Skills of students who get Moodle-based Flipped Learning Model is better than students who get Moodle-based conventional learning (2) there is no interaction between learning (Flipped Learning Model and conventional) and General English Language Proficiency (GELP) with high, medium, low level categories on the achievement and improvement of students^ Basic Translation Skills and 21st Century Skills- and (3) there is an association between Basic Translation Skills and student 21st Century Skills.
