English Academic Writing Teaching Materials Needs Based on Interactive Digital Multimedia

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the need for interactive digital multimedia-based English academic writing teaching materials. This digital multimedia design uses an android application so that it can be downloaded on a smartphone via the playstore. The method used is qualitative which is carried out using a survey method. This research was conducted at a private university in Jakarta. Meanwhile, the participants involved as the object of the research were 3rd and 4th-semester students (n = 100), and 3 students of the English academic writing course. Data collection techniques using documents, interviews, and questionnaires. Data analysis consists of data such as data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. Furthermore, the data analysis technique used expert judgment. The results of the study found that students and lecturers needed the development of English academic writing teaching materials contained in digital multimedia interactions through the android application. In addition, writing teaching materials are also relevant to the development of 21st-century skills and the global era. The results of the study have implications for the understanding of teachers related to the needs of teaching materials. Teachers should conduct a needs assessment before implementing teaching and learning both related to teaching materials, learning media, or teaching strategies so that learning activities can be suitable for student needs.
