Abstract

The socio-economic life of farmers is closely related to farming strategies to survive in the face of drought in accordance with existing geographical conditions. This study analyzes the economic morals of farmers in dealing with times of drought in Banyu Urip Village, Central Lombok, Indonesia. Farming communities are the unit of analysis in qualitative research with this case study approach. Data from observations, in-depth interviews and documentation of field findings, then tested the validity of the data through cross-checking the data with data triangulation. To analyze data with interactive models, such as reducing data, presenting and verifying or drawing conclusions. The results of this study indicate that the economics of Sasak farmers community in Banyu Urip Village use an intercropping system and certain seeds to deal with the stress period. Good relations between residents prioritize the value of reciprocity such as banjar activities, hajatan, multilevel investment. This is the form of farmer rationality and reciprocity as a strategy to meet socio-economic needs.
