Abstract

This study discussed Bina Nusantara University^s online learning platform named Binusmaya to make it easier for students to access subject material outside the classroom. Besides, students were also expected to be able to study independently without being limited by space and time. The conversation course was one of the courses, which was a combination of e-learning and face-to-face in the Department of Chinese Literature. During one semester, students were expected to study independently for at least four times without face-to-face. The effectiveness of online learning as a learning medium for conversation subjects was not yet known. This research used the action research method with a qualitative approach, where action, evaluation, and critical reflection would be carried out for two months in the Chinese Conversation II class. The results of the study have found that learning materials and features available at Binusmaya already support online learning for three weeks out of a total of thirteen weeks of meetings in one semester. To increase the effectiveness of online learning by up to 100%, it is necessary to make an innovation of learning and assessment systems for Mandarin conversation classes.
