Abstract

E-learning has been a common practice since the COVID-19 outbreak. The readiness of universities to conduct e-learning for their students has become a tough challenge in the educational sector. However, this challenge can become an opportunity to develop an ideal e-learning model by implementing independence learning policy in Indonesia. With independence learning policy, teachers, and students from all over the world can exchange knowledge and learn together synchronously through online technology. This paper discusses about an e-learning model that will be developed to motivate students to learn different kinds of knowledge. To get the preliminary data for this model, we conduct a survey towards university students with diverse cultural backgrounds from national and international universities. Through this model, it is expected that students can progress consistent with their own interests and talents (independence learning). It is also expected that e-learning education becomes a means for fostering human resources in every skill, especially the 21st century skills and digital literacy skill. The findings from the survey revealed that not all universities abroad conduct e-learning since e-learning is still deemed unsuitable if the universities want to yield graduates who possess practical skills. However, an e-learning model that can cater these needs is still needed.
