Online Food Delivery Services During COVID-19 Pandemic: Potential, Prospects, Plausibility

Abstract

Several studies have reported about the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on different kinds of businesses especially to small and medium enterprises (SMEs). As the unprecedented entrance of the pandemic has made a contraction period in our economy, an immense number of businesses involuntarily closed. Thus, formulation of innovative business models is given more significance to stay thriving in a volatile market. Online food delivery services are one of the SMEs that survived the economic recession by using technology as an open innovation. Accordingly, this paper used the literature review approach and gathered data in various online platforms such as Google Scholar and Sciencedirect, featuring relevant articles regarding the potential, prospects and plausibility of online food services during the COVID-19 pandemic. In conclusion, this paper has discerned that the convenience of online food services such as paperless payments and digitalization, and the preservation of consumer^s health are some of the factors that made online food services flourish even in times of recession. Digital transformation and lean management such as improving user interface experience and the quality of food and services are some of the aspects they shall consider
