Abstract

This study aims to describe a phenomenon regarding, ^Symbolic Capital and Politics to Ethnic Groups in Papua, emphasized on the study of the victory of the Moskona tribe in the 2019 Legislative Election of Teluk Bintuni. The researcher adapts Pierre Bourdieu^s theory of Siombolik^s Capital to read a political phenomenon that occurs. The symbolic capital in the victory of the tribal chief is influenced by three aspects of interest, namely, First, the tradition of slaughtering pork: traditional offerings in the political sphere. Second, the customary clan network as a net for political power. Third. The chief of the tribe as a source of truth and belief. These three important aspects become a relationship and instrument and strategy in mobilizing political support for the victory of the Moskona tribe in the Legislative Election, apart from legislative events such as the regional election, the regional election and the presidential election, which require customary legitimacy and rituas of cutting babai. In addition, the Nasdem party (the ruling party in Teluk Bintuni Regency) has also utilized the figure of the tribal head to gain votes. The belief of the Moskona tribe community that tribes are a source of truth and goodness, therefore political direction and attitudes towards tribes have a political effect on indigenous peoples including at the level of political actions and decisions of Noken (collective voice) though. So the symbolic capital which includes the ritual of slaughtering pork and extras to the tribe is still a relevant instrument in the political world in Teluk Bintuni.
