Abstract

Problem solving is one of the higher order thinking demands that need to be stimulated. Practical activities during a pandemic must follow the rules to reduce physical interaction. Augmented Reality technology can be an alternative solution because it can help visualize a series of practicum procedures as a guide for students to carry out practical activities more independently. This study aims to conduct a field study related to the need for the development of practicum guides assisted Augmented Reality (AR). This field study uses a qualitative descriptive with data collection tools in the form of questionnaires and interview guidelines. The subjects in this field study are students who become practicum assistants, physics laboratory staff, and lecturers in basic physics courses. Based on the results of data analysis, it is known that practicum guidebooks are still dominated by text narratives, practicum activities can be directed to practice problem solving skills. The phenomenon of coastal areas can also be associated with physics practicum material. Practical procedures need to be equipped with video tutorials to make it easier for practitioners to carry out practical activities. Based on the results of the interview, it was also known that the obstacles to practicum activities during this pandemic were that not all practicum subjects were available at PheT to conduct virtual practicums. Practitioners are very dependent on the instructor^s explanation in carrying out experimental procedures. there is difficulty in curating physical interactions during practical activities. Thus, it can be concluded that alternative solutions for practicum guides are needed which are equipped with video tutorials for practical procedures. AR technology can be used as a means to visualize video tutorials that can be accessed offline.
