Some Factors affecting First Year Student Academic Achievement at SMA Negeri 03 Seluma Bengkulu

Abstract

This study aims to determine what factors affect the academic achievement of class X students of SMA Negeri 03 Seluma and the dominant variables in each of the factors that influence it. Variables suspected of influencing academic achievement consist of health, intelligence, interest in learning, learning motivation, learning methods, family environment, learning facilities, teachers, and community environment. The method to identify these factors is factor analysis. Factor analysis is a statistical method to analyze a number of variables in terms of their intercorrelation. Based on the results of the study, of the 10 variables used, 2 factors were formed that affect student academic achievement where each factor has an eigenvalue > 1. Factor 1 is Internal Students with an eigenvalue of 4.651 and a variance of 46.508. Factor 2 is Student Environment with eigenvalues and variance of 1.016of 10.162. The dominant variable in each successive factor is interest in learning with variable weights 0.804 and communities with variable weights 0.802.
