Abstract

Ascorbic acid or vitamin C is an essential nutrient involved in the various enzymatic processes for repairing the tissue. Vitamin C also functions as an antioxidant, and it is important to maintain the immune system. Due to its intake from daily diet should be in the right dose, it is crucial to develop a quantitative analytical method to determine ascorbic acid content in many samples. Here, we have successfully synthesized metal organic frameworks (MOFs) as a colorimetric probe that selectively changes its color in the present of vitamin C in the samples. In this research, cupper was used as a central metal that bond in coordination with phenanthroline as organic ligand or linker. The color changes of Cu-Phen MOFs at 410 nm are linearly proportional to the changes of light absorbance. Furthermore, we have developed a digital image-based colorimetry as an alternative to the spectrophotometry UV-visible. The blue color intensity gives the highest slope and linearity to the Cu-Phen color change. By using the developed method, precise and accurate results of ascorbic acid determination in various samples were achieved.
