Abstract

This study aims to determine the mathematical connection ability of prospective mathematics teacher students in solving combinatoric problems. This research was conducted in the odd semester of the 2021/2022 academic year in the mathematics education study program. As for the subjects of the research, 77 students in the third semester who were taking discrete mathematics lectures. The subjects of this study were students with various abilities, namely high, medium, and low. Data collection was carried out using tests and interviews in which the test instrument was developed by the researcher himself. The results showed that the mathematical connection ability of prospective teacher students was still relatively low, namely 67% of the total. Based on the results, it is known that most of the students have not been able to connect stories in combinatoric problems into the form of modeling or forecasting combinations. This results in errors in solving the combinatoric problem
