Abstract

Mangrove forest has an important role for coastal ecosystem and sustainable economy. However, the environmental pressure has changed the mangrove cover due to land requirements for housing and infrastructure development. This research was aimed to identify mangrove cover change in 2002 and 2019 in Kendari Bay, Southeast Sulawesi Province, and its impact on decreasing fisherman income. During almost 17 years of mangrove cover change, we identified that it reduced natural resources such as fish, shrimp, shellfish, and crab. It can be found through the decreasing of fisherman income. The method of this research was processing high resolution satellite image to obtain mangrove cover change and field survey to collect income data from people who living in Kendari Bay.
