Abstract

Microalgae meal contains nutritious elements required for aqua feed include lipid and carotenoid. However, production of the meal is still considered expensive. In this study, we calculated the cost for production of aqua feed for shrimp containing Dunaliella salina meal with the intention to increase the shrimp coloration. D. saline is widely known for high carotenoid content and has been used for live feed in aquaculture hatchery as well as functional food for human consumption. We found that although production of shrimp feed containing D. salina meal was higher than commercial shrimp feed but better growth and coloration was also found in shrimp feed on D. salina meal contained feed. This is indicated that inclusion of microalgae meal can be implemented with necessary investment in the microalgae meal and aquafeed production
