The Effectiveness of Handwashing Education with Audiovisual Methods to Increase Students^ Knowledge and Attitudes about Handwashing at SMU Negeri 1 Gamping, Sleman Yogyakarta

Abstract
Background: Hand hygiene plays a crucial role in preventing infection in patients and health workers.Hand washing is the most effective action is hand hygiene, because it can prevent cross-transmission of microorganisms and reduce the incidence of nosocomial infections. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effectiveness of hand washing education with audiovisual methods to increase students^ knowledge and attitudes about hand washing at SMA NEGERI 1 Gamping, Yogyakarta.
Method: The design of this research is a quantitative research using a Quasi-experimental design with One group Pretest and Posttest Design. This is a type of analityc reaseach. There is one reasearh group where are comparison has been made before and after being given an intervention or treatment in the form of education with audiovisuals. Data collection was done by questionnaire- the number of samples was 107.
Results: The results of measuring knowledge about handwashing before and after education were carried out with the Wilcoxon test, obtained p = 0.001. This shows that there is a difference in knowledge between before and after education. The results of measuring attitudes about hand washing before and after education were carried out with the Wilcoxon test, obtained p = 0.001. This shows that there is a significant difference between before and after education.
Conclusions: Education about hand washing with audiovisual methods significantly increases knowledge and attitudes about handwashing in Gamping high school students in Yogyakarta.
