The challenges of twenty-first century require students to have twenty-first century skills. Based on the PISA results, it has been found that Indonesian students have low critical thinking and problem-solving skills. One learning model that allow the practice of twenty-first century skills is STEM teaching and learning, but the limitations of learning media are an obstacle to implementing this learning model. To support the skill needs and the achievement of competencies in the current curriculum, it is necessary to develop STEM-based learning media. This can help students to improve critical thinking skills, the ability to apply theories and analyze local knowledge. In this study, we developed a prototype of a micro hydro power plant (MHP) as learning media that can be used in teaching physics. The study investigated concepts of physics that can be taught and experiments that can be done using the learning media. The concepts of physics that can be taught with this media include rotational mechanics, dynamic fluids, energy and its conversion, and renewable energy sources. In the experiment, students can observe and analyze the effect of height on the electrical energy produced and look for the system efficiency for two different number of blades of the turbines and their effect on the energy produced.
