Israf and Impulsive Buying Behavior in Universitas Islam Bandung Students

Abstract

Abstract-Themes of this research are israf, hedonic shopping value, shopping lifestyle and positive emotion with impulse buying behavior in Unisba (Universitas Islam Bandung) Students. Interest in this research began when we found that Unisba Students keep buying certain products continuously, without planning, and without consideration whether they do need those products or not. The motives of this behavior are needs to satisfy themselves as part of hedonistic mindset, or because of their lifestyle, or because of positive emotions that arouse when they are shopping. If we see these problems deeper we will found that all of these motives are based on efforts to conceal their weakness and deficiencies. On the other side this behavior can appear because of their dissatisfaction with themselves or with the products that their bought before. This dissatisfaction motivate Unisba students to keep buying certain products continuously and without planning.
Ideally, as Unisba students they have to make use of goods and products according to their needs. Even if they have to buy something new, they have to shop according to their need and not shopping excessively. This excessive buying behavior we found in Unisba Students have shown us that Unisba students have tendencies for impulsive buying behavior. Impulsive buying is without planning and spontaneous buying behavior, this behavior is what make people feel the need to buy certain products immediately at that very moments, and as a way to satisfy themselves. People who have tendencies to impulsive buying will buy certain products without considering whether they need it or not, and they will buy it as a mean only to satisfy themselves or just because they like the products. Ideally, this behavior should not appear in Unisba students who have studied Pendidikan Agama Islam as a part of their curriculum.
