Improving added value of region waste managementf trought maggot cultvation

Abstract

A social community - RW 12- of Rancamulya Village, Pamengpeuk Subdistrict, has carried out regional waste management independently although in simple way. The problem is the household waste still in a mixed condition, so waste management hasn^t had optimal value-added and still occurs the environmental pollution. The community services program has two purposes, to increase knowledge and participation of waste management also to adding value to household waste. The method used is the participatory method through waste management training to change the mindset of citizens about the importance of protecting the environment and motivating them to to sort waste from their houses. Maggot cultivation could be used to increasing the value-added of organic waste.
The result shows that community knowledge and participation in sorting waste has increased. Meanwhile, increasing the added value of organic waste by using it as Maggot cultivation feed is able to make Maggot as an alternative feed for catfish, ducks, chickens, birds etc. In addition, organic waste from Maggot cultivation can be used as compost to fertilize plants. This shows that Maggot cultivation increases the added value of organic waste and contribute to increase the productivity of catfish by reducing operational costs.
